Easy removal for dead moth spots on a ceiling

How to Get Rid of Dead Moth Spots on a Ceiling

Dead moths can leave behind stubborn brown or grey stains on ceilings.
Here’s how to clean them up safely and without damaging your paint.

What You’ll Need

  • Microfiber cloth
  • Magic Eraser or melamine sponge
  • Dish soap
  • Warm water
  • Hydrogen peroxide (3%)
  • Cotton swab or small paintbrush

Step-by-Step

1. Dust it off

Gently wipe the spot with a dry microfiber cloth to remove any loose debris.

2. Try a Magic Eraser

  • Lightly dampen the sponge.
  • Gently rub the stained area in small circles.
  • Avoid over-scrubbing to protect the paint.

3. Use Soap and Water

  • Mix a few drops of dish soap in warm water.
  • Dip a soft cloth or sponge, wring it out, and blot the spot.
  • Wipe again with clean water to rinse.

4. Stubborn Stain? Try Hydrogen Peroxide

  • Dip a cotton swab in 3% hydrogen peroxide.
  • Dab the stain gently and let it sit for 5–10 minutes.
  • Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
  • ⚠️ Test in a hidden spot first to avoid bleaching the paint.

5. Still There? Spot Paint

  • Use a stain-blocking primer followed by matching ceiling paint.
  • Great for old or deep stains that won’t lift.
